Contents:
Norethisterone 5 mg.
Indications:
Listed in Dosage.
Contraindications:
Pregnancy; severe liver dysfunction;
Dubin-Johnson syndrome, Rotor syndromes, previous or existing liver
tumors; history of jaundice or severe pruritus during pregnancy,
history of herpes of pregnancy; thromboembolic processes.
Special Precautions:
Before starting treatment of secondary
amenorrhoea, the presence of prolactin-producing pituitary tumour should
be excluded. Diabetes; history of thromboembolic disease. Benign &
rarely, malignant liver tumours which may lead to life-threatening
intra-abdominal hemorrhage. Unusual severe upper abdominal complaints.
Dosage:
Dysfunctional uterine bleeding 1 tab tid for 10 days. To
prevent recurrence: 1 tab bid-tid from 19th-26th day of cycle for 3 cycles.
Primary & secondary amenorrhea Start 8 wk after last menstrual period.
Premenstrual syndrome, mastopathy 1 tab bid-tid from 19th-26th day of cycle.
Timing of menstruation 1 tab tid for <10-14 days, beginning 3 days before
expected menstruation. Bleeding occur 2-3 days after medication stops. Endometriosis
Start on 5th day of cycle w/ 1 tab bid, increase to 2 tab bid in the event of
spotting. When bleeding stops, resume initial dose. Duration of treatment: At
least 4-6 mth.
