          Estradiol valerate

Indications:

          Hormone replacement therapy for natural menopause or after ovariectomy. Prevention of postmenopausal osteoporosis.

Contraindications:

          Pregnancy & lactation, liver disease, undiagnosed vag bleeding, previous or existing liver tumours; thromboembolic disorder, existing or suspected hormone-dependent tumours of the uterus or breast; hypertriglyceridemia.

Special Precautions:

          Suspected adenoma of the anterior lobe of the pituitary gland. History of thrombosis; overwt; varicose veins; fibroids of the womb; endometriosis; liver/gallbladder disease; jaundice; diabetes; HTN, chloasma, epilepsy, benign breast cancer; asthma; migraine, porphyria, otosclerosis, SLE; chorea minor.

Dosage:

          1 tab is taken daily starting on the 1st day of menstruation. In women w/ intact uterus, the concomitant use of an appropriate progestogen is advised for 10-14 days every 4 wk.
