Contents:

          Per 375 mg Sultamicillin: Sulbactam 147 mg, ampicillin 220 mg. Per 5 mL susp Sultamicillin 250 mg

Indications:

          Upper & lower resp tract infections eg sinusitis, otitis media, tonsillitis, bacterial pneumonias, bronchitis, UTI, pyelonephritis, skin & soft tissue infections & gonococcal infections. Oral follow-up therapy to Unasyn IM/IV.

 

Contraindications:

         History of allergic reaction to any penicillins.

 

Special Precautions:

          Overgrowth of nonsusceptible organisms. Check periodically for organ system dysfunction during prolonged therapy. Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea (CDAD) must be considered in all patients who present w/ diarrhea following antibiotic use; careful medical history is necessary. Pregnancy & lactation.

Dosage:

          Adult & childn ≥30 kg 375-750 mg bd. Childn <30 kg 25-50 mg/kg/day in 2 divided doses depending on the severity of the infection. Gonorrhea 2.25 g as a single dose. Concomitant probenecid: 1 g to be administered in order to prolong plasma conc of Unasyn.
